Forrest Frank Drops New Music with New Band
A major new chapter has arrived for Forrest Frank, who released a new album alongside the launch of a rebranded band project, now officially known as Party Wave.
The project, originally introduced under a different name, has quickly become one of the most talked about stories in Christian music this year, not just for its sound, but for the remarkable journey behind its name.
From “Dawn Patrol” to a New Identity
Before Party Wave, the duo operated under the name Dawn Patrol, a title rooted in the band’s origin story. Frank and collaborator Noah Hayden began creating music together during early morning surf sessions, what surfers call “dawn patrol,” referencing the hours just before sunrise.
Those sessions shaped the entire album, which Frank described as capturing the feeling of “going surfing and worshiping the Lord,” blending laid back production with faith centered themes.
The duo even completed a full album under the Dawn Patrol name and released their debut single “SOS” before issues emerged.
Copyright Issues Force a Pivot
Despite receiving initial approval to use the name, the project hit an unexpected roadblock when Dawn Patrol’s social media presence was taken down due to copyright concerns, revealing that the name was already claimed.
At one point, there were discussions about spending $10,000 to secure the rights to the name.
Instead of pursuing a legal battle, Frank chose a different route.
The $10,000 Name Change Challenge
In a move that quickly went viral, Frank offered $10,000 to fans who could come up with a new name for the band.
The contest not only solved the naming issue, but it became something much bigger. The winning name, Party Wave, was selected through fan participation, reflecting the communal, joy filled spirit Frank wanted the project to embody.
In a surprising twist, the prize money sparked a chain reaction of generosity. The initial winner declined to keep the money, passing it along, and eventually leading to tens of thousands of dollars being donated to a children’s home in Guatemala.
The New Album is Still “Dawn Patrol”
Interestingly, while the band name has changed, the album itself retains the title Dawn Patrol. The project officially dropped on April 8, marking both the culmination of the duo’s original vision and the beginning of their new era as Party Wave.
A New Album Era Begins
While Frank has not formally rebranded his solo catalog, the introduction of Party Wave signals a distinct sonic and creative lane, one expected to accompany new music releases tied to the duo. The move follows a highly successful run of solo projects, including Child of God (2024) and Child of God II (2025), which helped position him as one of the leading voices in modern Christian pop and hip hop.
The new project is widely viewed as an extension, not a replacement, of his solo artistry, offering a collaborative outlet that blends his signature faith centered themes with a more group driven sound.
From Surfaces to Solo to Superduo
Frank’s journey to this moment has been marked by reinvention. He first broke through as one half of Surfaces, the duo behind the viral hit “Sunday Best,” before pivoting into Christian music with a string of chart topping releases and award recognition.
Now, Party Wave represents a full circle moment with Frank returning to a collaborative format, but with a clearly defined faith driven purpose and an even larger platform.
A New Wave
With Party Wave, Frank blends the collaborative chemistry of his past with the faith driven focus of his recent solo success. What started as early morning surf sessions (and briefly carried the name Dawn Patrol) has now evolved into a fan shaped movement, a new band identity, and a fresh album release that reflects both creativity and community at its core.
